Transformation in God’s Presence

The idea that we are transformed in the presence of the Lord has been stirring in my spirit for some time now.

When I first got saved as a teenager, one of the most enduring and engaging parts of church for me was worship music. Worship music became, and remains, my language to Jesus. There has always been music playing in the background of my life story.

I can still tie moments of my life to songs that became markers of God's presence and faithfulness.

Songs like Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord, I Want to See You shaped my earliest foundations as I began my walk with the Lord. Majesty and Shine, Jesus, Shine stirred something deep within me as I gained understanding of my role in the Kingdom.

Then there were songs that awakened a hunger for intimacy with God; songs that made me long for early mornings with Him, knowing I could meet Him there and be transformed. In the Garden, Jim Reeves’ version, was a staple in my late teens and early twenties while in college in the early nineties.

As I continued my journey, different songs marked different moments in my life.

Way Maker by Sinach became an anthem in seasons when I needed to remember that God is still working - miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness.

I remember sitting at my desk during one of the darkest seasons of my life, held together by music that reminded me the storm would not last forever. The anthem for that season was Victory Is Yours by Bethel Music.

"The victory is Yours, You're riding on the storm.
Your name is unfailing.
Though kingdoms rise and fall,
Your throne withstands them all."

Then came songs celebrating the goodness of God, chief among them Goodness of God. The lyrics about God being both Father and Friend ministered deeply to me:

"I love You, Lord... all my life You have been faithful."

Those words were not just lyrics; they became part of my testimony.

Apple Music shared that my most played song in 2025 was Journey with You by Yinka Okeleye. An appropriate observation, given the deep restorative work the Lord accomplished in my life during that season. The lyrics beautifully reflect that journey:

"You have called my name...
I'll respond to You...
I'll go on this journey with You...
Just two of us...
No going back."

There were also songs that carried me through seasons of surrender—songs that simply cried, "Lord, keep doing what You're doing in me."

Looking back, I realize that worship music has never just been music for me. It has been Scripture sung over my life. It has been truth anchoring me through every season. And through it all, I can see the transforming power of God's love.

Transformation in God's presence is ongoing because the Holy Spirit is continually bringing into visible expression the regeneration that has already taken place in our spirit.

"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory..." (2 Corinthians 3:18, NIV)

He is continually forming the image of Jesus Christ in us; transforming us from glory to glory. The Father uses everything in our lives to make us like His Son: His Word, His love, our experiences, and even music.

In this current season, the song Eze Ebube by Neon Adejo is ministering deeply to me. As I reflect on my life, I can truly say:

"See how far You've brought me...
I can see, I can tell, and I know it’s Your grace. All my days I will sing Your praise"

There is another truth that keeps echoing in my spirit:

"You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence..." (Psalm 16:11, NIV)

Where His presence is, transformation happens. As we behold Him, we are changed. Darkness cannot remain in His presence. Nothing contrary to His nature can endure where His light reigns.

"For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light." (Psalm 36:9, NIV)

His presence drives away fear, despair, confusion, and oppression because there is supernatural power in the light of Christ. So we remain in His light, dwell in His presence, and stay close to Him.

And the prayer of my heart is this:

Lord, let us dwell in Your presence forever. Let the transforming power of Your glory continue to shape us into the image of Christ. Let Your light fill every dark place until all that remains is Your beauty reflected through our lives.

Jesus, have Your way in us. Let the music play on, play on…
